Discussion on Photosynthesis

Discussion on Photosynthesis

PSLE Science can be one of the important and interesting subjects for Singapore candidates. One of the more important and common topics is photosynthesis, lets have a discussion on Photosynthesis.

Plants absorb water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from the soil and atmosphere during photosynthesis. Water is oxidized, which means it loses electrons, while carbon dioxide is reduced, which means it gains electrons, inside the plant cell. Water is converted into oxygen and carbon dioxide into glucose as a result. After storing energy within the glucose molecules, the plant releases the oxygen back into the atmosphere.

Different Forms of Photosynthesis

There are two types of photosynthesis:

Oxidative photosynthesis

Anoxygenic photosynthesis

Oxygenic Photosynthesis

Plants, algae, and cyanobacteria are more frequently found utilizing oxygenic photosynthesis. Light energy is used in this process to create energy by transferring electrons from water to carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is reduced, water is oxidized, and oxygen is produced along with the carbohydrates during this transfer of electrons.

Plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the air during this process.

Anoxygenic Photosynthesis

Purple and green sulfur bacteria, which are found in a variety of aquatic habitats, are two examples of bacteria that frequently engage in this type of photosynthesis. The process does not result in the production of oxygen.

Things That Affect Photosynthesis

The photosynthesis process needs a number of things, including:

Light Intensity: A higher rate of photosynthesis is produced by more light. Low light levels, on the other hand, cause photosynthesis to occur at a slower rate.

The carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration: A higher concentration of CO2 speeds up photosynthesis. For photosynthesis, levels of carbon dioxide between 300 and 400 PPM are typically sufficient.

Temperature: A temperature range of 25° to 35° C is necessary for the efficient execution of photosynthesis.

Final Words

1. The productivity of agricultural crops is influenced by the rate of photosynthesis.

2. It guarantees that there is enough oxygen in the atmosphere for all living things.

3. It regulates the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the ecosystem.

4. Fossil fuels are made from plants.

5. The sun's photosynthesis results in the energy being stored in the fuel.

This is the process of photosynthesis, the types of photosynthesis, and their importance. As said, this is one of the common topics in PSLE Science. So learning this with proper guidance and learning resources is important. 88tuition,one of the best PSLE Science in Singapore helps students to learn and score better in their subjects.
