Science is an easy subject - Why do I say this ?

Science is one of the oldest and most important academic disciplines and covers a wide variety of subjects. It is also one of the fundamental parts of the term STEM, used to refer to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Science helps our understanding of the world around us.

Everything we know about the universe, from how trees reproduce to what an atom is made up of, is the result of scientific research and experiment. Human progress throughout history has largely rested on advances in science. From our knowledge of gravity to cutting - edge medicines, students of Science have shaped our modern world.

All of these advances can trace their origin back to individuals learning about science as students. That’s why it is the interests of governments, companies and wider society to promote Science as a subject at schools; it ensures the next wave of progress in all of the fields that affect our daily lives.

So when it comes to science at school, especially in primary school, science needs to be taught as an essential skill - and for students to pick it up quickly, it needs to be taught as something easy. Children are naturally curious about the world around them, but time constraints and a focus on preparing for exams mean science often becomes a rote learning subject and so they lose interest. This is one of the primary reasons why parents enrol their children in the best science tuition so that children are fortunate enough to learn the subject from the best minds.

As parents, here’s what you can do to make PSLE science easy for your kids:

  • Help them understand questions - Tackling the English is half the problem. Knowing important scientific keywords and identifying exactly what a question asks can go a long way towards being good at science.
  • Develop a scientific method of thinking - Observe, note parameters, experiment, analyse, conclude. This pattern of scientific experimentation can be practised even at home, giving students a habit of thinking logically.
  • Spaced revision and remediation - Repeat concepts to check their understanding every ten days - talk to your child’s tutor to make a plan for them, online tuitions can help you in tracking your child’s learning progress regularly
  • Use scientific languages at home - Help your children understand how to use observations to come up with inferences. Train them to know the difference between factual analysis and conjecture. Once they get used to thinking that way, they will find it much easier to answer science questions. Read the article about, How to Motivate your Children to Learn Well.
